vault. Once the asset has been removed to an alternate location

CARGO SECURITY
There is an increasing trend that armed robbers see the haulage
industry as “easy pickings”. During recent months
there have been several robberies and vehicles hi-jacks of
HGVs carrying valuable cargos of Computer Equipment (value
lost £200,000), Wines and Spirits (value lost £100,000),
Camcorders value lost £400,000), Whiskey and Gin (value
lost £200,000). In many cases the robbers are armed
and use violence against the driver.
On 18th May 2006 - Three masked men kidnapped
a driver from the Welcome Break near Thame while he was resting
in his lorry and stole £360,000 of computer equipment.
The driver's five-hour ordeal began when he pulled up into
the service station off Junction 8A of the M40 at around 5.30am.
He fell asleep to have a rest after travelling all the way
from his home in the Czech Republic via Dover but was woken
up by kidnappers who forced him into the sleeping compartment
of his blue lorry. They kept him there while one of the men
drove the vehicle all the way up the M40 to Lancashire.
On 6th December 2006 - Robbers broke into
a building on an industrial estate and stole 4 articulated
lorries full of alcohol worth £250,000. The lorries
were worth £70,000 each. The total cost to the companies
insurance underwriters was in excess of half a million pounds.
